The Hessling Editor (THE) is a text editor that uses both command line commands and key bindings to operate. It is intended to be similar to the VM/CMS System Product Editor, XEDIT, and to Mansfield Software KEDIT. THE was originally written to be used by people already familiar with the above editors. For this reason, there is limited information on using THE. Greater emphasis is placed on reference materials, such as command syntax and configuration.

If you already have a gmail.com Google account and want to have the calendar associated with that account included in your GoogleApps@UIC calendar, log in to your other Google account and  "share" your other Google calendar with your GoogleApps@UIC calendar.

Service: Exchange

Your Exchange quota includes all your email, attachments, calendaring data, task items, and more. We strongly recommend that you manage your quota by deleting items you do not need and clear out the deleted items weekly. Your ACCC Exchange mailbox grows as you create and receive items. When you delete items, the size of the Outlook Data File (.pst and .ost) file might not decrease in proportion to the data that you deleted. There are several ways to manage your mailbox and reduce the size of the data file.

ANSYS must ALWAYS be run using torque. You can run ANSYS in an interactive mode via a GUI that is called the launcher, or in a non-interactive (batch) mode. In both cases you start ANSYS using the qsub command.

Running ANSYS interactively (using the launcher)

You desktop PC will act as the X-server for the ANSYS launcher. Exceed is the ACCC-supported X-server package. However, you are not required to use Exceed; there are other Window-based X-server packages that will work just as nicely.

This page has instructions on how to install and configure the TSM client, and to run a manual backup. Before you begin, you need to do some initial steps like registering your node and making sure your password is up to date.

The ACCC runs an LDAP server that you can use to look up the names and email addresses of people using NetID@uic.edu email addresses. This page explains how to use this LDAP server with Mozilla Thunderbird and with Eudora OSE, which is based on Thunderbird.

Department Phonebook contacts can make changes to staff Phonebook records in their department, as well as manage the unit's department listing as displayed in Departments A-Z search. Phonebook Contacts are assigned by a delegate authority in the department - usually a dean, director, department head or other designated employee. If you already have a MySQL database, use the MySQL database and user management web application to:

  • add MySQL database users

To request a new MySQL database email accounts@uic.edu indicating what kind of usage you intend and what disk space requirements you foresee needing. Service: Listserv

Listserv passwords are independent of any other password. A listserv password is associated with a specific email address. To set a new listserv password click on the Change Password button on any listserv login page:

  1. Click File and choose Print (or use the shortcut Ctrl + P or Command + P). By default your document will be printed double-sided (if it is longer than one page).
  2. Verify the printer you have selected matches the lab you are in (unless you intend to have your job printed to a different lab).
  3. Click Print.
  4. Access the nearest U-Print Station and log in using your UIC NetID  and password.
  5. Once logged in, you must select the document that you want to print, and simply click Print once more.

To change a file's extension, you must first enable file extension display in Windows. It is disabled by default. Once file extensions are displayed, you can use the file rename functionality to change a file's extension.

Display file extensions

The process of telling Windows Explorer to display file extensions is pretty much the same, regardless of what version of Windows you are using.
