An email alias is an email address that forwards messages to a single existing email address. An email alias is not an account and does not have a password associated with it. Email aliases must be requested and owned by a UIC faculty or staff member who will manage the forwarding of the alias. Email aliases are useful for receiving email related to a specific purpose that has only one intended recipient.

To run programs on Argo, submit your executable program (user-written or vendor-supplied software) to the torque system and it will run the program on one of the compute nodes. Torque is a networked subsystem for submitting, monitoring, and controlling a workload of jobs on the cluster. It is not a batch system - interactive jobs such as ANSYS and GaussView may be run in it.

Below is a sample text file, called my_script, that contains some basic directives (commands) to torque:

The Hessling Editor (THE) is a text editor that uses both command line commands and key bindings to operate. It is intended to be similar to the VM/CMS System Product Editor, XEDIT, and to Mansfield Software KEDIT. THE was originally written to be used by people already familiar with the above editors. For this reason, there is limited information on using THE. Greater emphasis is placed on reference materials, such as command syntax and configuration.

Important note: If your program or software is not parallel or distributive, specifying more than one node and/or more than one processor does absolutely nothing other than waste resources that could be used by some other client.

Please visit Massmail Preferences to subscribe or cancel your subscription to Massmail.

Important note: Subscription to Official and Urgent notifications is mandatory for all active UIC students, staff, faculty and affiliates with a UIC NetID. To update the email address used for subscription to Massmail and Urgent and Official notifications, update the forwarding of your UIC email address.

If a department, student organization, or other official Web page has a URL that begins with http://www.uic.edu/depts/ then the page is stored on tigger.uic.edu, in a directory that begins with:

/usr/local/etc/httpd/htdocs/depts/...
Service: Exchange

Your Exchange quota includes all your email, attachments, calendaring data, task items, and more. We strongly recommend that you manage your quota by deleting items you do not need and clear out the deleted items weekly. Your ACCC Exchange mailbox grows as you create and receive items. When you delete items, the size of the Outlook Data File (.pst and .ost) file might not decrease in proportion to the data that you deleted. There are several ways to manage your mailbox and reduce the size of the data file.

The ACCC runs an LDAP server that you can use to look up the names and email addresses of people using NetID@uic.edu email addresses. This page explains how to use this LDAP server with Mozilla Thunderbird and with Eudora OSE, which is based on Thunderbird.

This article describes how to set the name on outgoing emails. With the exception of Exchange, the name can be customized directly in each email client you use. Below are a few examples:

This page has instructions on how to install and configure the TSM client, and to run a manual backup. Before you begin, you need to do some initial steps like registering your node and making sure your password is up to date.

If you already have a gmail.com Google account and want to have the calendar associated with that account included in your GoogleApps@UIC calendar, log in to your other Google account and  "share" your other Google calendar with your GoogleApps@UIC calendar.

ANSYS must ALWAYS be run using torque. You can run ANSYS in an interactive mode via a GUI that is called the launcher, or in a non-interactive (batch) mode. In both cases you start ANSYS using the qsub command.

Running ANSYS interactively (using the launcher)

You desktop PC will act as the X-server for the ANSYS launcher. Exceed is the ACCC-supported X-server package. However, you are not required to use Exceed; there are other Window-based X-server packages that will work just as nicely.

MPI - Message Passing Interface - is a library specification the foundation of which is a group of functions that can be used in either Fortran or C, to achieve programming parallelism. The various functions permit processes on multiple compute nodes to talk to another by the exchange of messages.

Closing a GoogleApps@UIC session is a two step process. You must do both.

Department Phonebook contacts can make changes to staff Phonebook records in their department, as well as manage the unit's department listing as displayed in Departments A-Z search. Phonebook Contacts are assigned by a delegate authority in the department - usually a dean, director, department head or other designated employee. Delegate authorities can assign Phonebook contacts and other liaisons online.
