How do I configure my Android device for Exchange?

Android OS (2.3+,3.0+,4.0+) with ActiveSync Support is required to sync with ACCC Exchange accounts. You can sync email, contacts, and your calendar.

These instructions are for users of the ACCC's locally hosted Exchange service. Exchange Online users should use the Exchange Online configuration instructions.

Smartphone setup

Note: What you actually see may vary depending on what smartphone you have and what Android OS version you are using.

  1. Enter the E-mail setup program on your Android smartphone device.
  2. Press the Menu button, and select Add account.
    • Enter your UIC email address: NetID@uic.edu
    • Enter your ACCC common password.
    • Check: Send email from this account by default if needed
    • Select: Manual Setup
  3. Select Exchange Active Sync. On the Server settings screen, enter:
    • Domain: <blank>
    • Username: your UIC email address: NetID@uic.edu
    • Password: your ACCC common password
    • Server: exchange.uic.edu
    • Check: Use secure connection (SSL)
  4. Select: Next
    • If the Remote security administration dialog box appears, select OK to continue.
    • Adjust Inbox check frequency and Amount to synchronize as you prefer.
    • Check Sync contacts from this account
    • Check Sync calendar from account
  5. Select Next and give your account a name.
  6. Select Done
  7. You might get a security setting notification after you finish setting up your account. Select the notification to update your phone's security settings.
  8. Select: Done

Tablet setup

Note: What you actually see may vary depending on what tablet you have and what Android OS version you are using.

  1. Enter the E-mail setup program on your Android tablet device.
  2. Select Menu in the top right corner, and select Settings.
  3. Select Add account in the top right corner.
    • Enter your ACCC Exchange email address: NetID@uic.edu
    • Enter your ACCC common password.
    • Check Send email from this account by default if needed
    • Select Next
  4. Select Exchange. On the Server settings screen, enter:
    • Domain: <blank>
    • Username: your UIC email address: NetID@uic.edu
    • Password: your ACCC common password
    • Server: exchange.uic.edu
    • Check Use secure connection (SSL)
  5. Select: Next
    1. If the Remote security administration dialog box appears, select OK to continue.
    2. Adjust Inbox check frequency and Amount to synchronize as you prefer.
    3. Check Notify me when email arrives
    4. Check Sync contacts from this account
    5. Check Sync calendar from account
    6. Check Sync email from this account
    7. You might get a notification to Activate device administrator. Select: Activate
  6. Select Next and give your account a name.
  7. Select Next
    1. To sync other folders in addition to your Inbox, select the folder's name from the folder list.
    2. Select Menu in the top right corner, and select Sync Options.
    3. Adjust the Check frequency and Days to Sync as you prefer.
    4. Your folder should now sync according to your frequency setting.
