How do I make a conference call?

Phone conferences can be scheduled up to 30 days in advance. For short notice and same day phone conference requests please call Telecom at 312-996-7144 and select option 4, then option 1 between the hours of 8am – 4:15 pm to reserve your conference.

There are two methods for setting up a conference call - request to set up a phone conference using any phone, or use the VoIP conference feature if you have a Cisco VoIP phone.

Requesting a conference call

Conference call using any phone

With this service, conferees call a reserved conference telephone number at a pre-arranged time and also send out a link where participants can participate via the web during a conference call:

  1. The person setting up the conference call (the originator) should request a phone conference online. Phone conferences can be scheduled up to 30 days in advance. For short notice and same day phone conference requests, please call Telecom at 312-996-7144 and select option 4, then option 1 between the hours of 8am – 4:15 pm to reserve your conference. Be prepared to give the operator your name, phone number, date of the conference call, start and end time of the conference call and the number of participants that will be on the call.
  2. The operator will record this information and reserve a conference line for you, and send you an email with a toll-free conference number, access code and host code, and set of instructions and links on how to incorporate web conferencing into the call.
  3. The originator must then notify the other conferees and give them the reserved conference number and web conference participation instructions.

Conference call instructions

Conference call using the VoIP phone conference feature on a Cisco phone

These instructions are for making a conference call with a Cisco VoIP phone. Please note that some UIC Cisco phones have calling restrictions, so you should confirm that the phone you plan to use can call off-campus and out of state.

  1. Start a standard conference call by calling participants: During a connected call, press Confrn to add another party to the call. Dial the participant's number. After connecting, press Confrn again. Repeat to add each participant.
  2. Invite current callers to join a standard conference call: Scroll to each target call on the line and press Select. From a selected call, press Join.
  3. View a list of participants: Choose an active conference and press ConfList. A * indicates the initiator.
  4. Remove a participant from the conference: If you are the conference initiator, you can press RmLstC or scroll to a name in the conference list and press Remove.
