How do I migrate my email to an Exchange account?

Moving your mail over to Exchange depends on how your current mailing system is setup. Please see which of the below scenarios applies to you and follow the steps provided.

Mailserv account with IMAP

Applies to you if:

  • You use Webmail
  • You are using an email client (Thunderbird, Eudora) with an IMAP connection to your UIC account
  • You check your mail from multiple locations

Set up your UIC account in Outlook. Once configured, drag and drop the old emails and folders from your mailserv account into the Exchange mailbox.

Mailserv account with POP

Applies to you if:

  • You are using an email client (Thunderbird, Eudora) with a POP connection to your UIC account
  • You check mail from only one location
  • You have saved mail to local folders in Thunderbird or Eudora

Since POPing or saving mail locally to Thunderbird or Eudora removes the mail from the server, you will not be able to transfer your mail by connecting your UIC Mailserv account to Outlook. Outlook also uses a different file system then other email clients, so you will need to convert your mail before importing it into Outlook. Aid4Mail is the program recommended for assisting with converting your mail. Here is a tutorial on moving your mail from Thunderbird to Outlook. The same steps can be followed for Eudora by replacing Thunderbird with Eudora in step 3.

GoogleApps@UIC account

Set up your GoogleApps@UIC account in Outlook. Once configured, drag and drop the old emails and folders from your mailserv account into the Exchange mailbox.
