What should I do if I exceed my email quota?

Our Online Disk Space Policy outlines the quotas, or limits, placed of space usage in various accounts. If you receive a warning notice about disk space usage on Mailserv or Tigger, start by visiting the Quota tool to view the amount of space used by your email folders. This will help you pinpoint the largest folders in your account. Next, open one of the large folders in Webmail and sort by message size. Download large attachment to your computer, or use network storage, such as Box and delete them to free up space.

If your email account is on Tigger, consider migrating to Mailserv, which offers a lot more space. Migrating to mailserv is quick and easy. You do not have to change any of your email client settings. The migration process will copy your email, filters and update your NetID@uic.edu forwarding. After the migration is done, use to Quota tool to clear your account.

If your email account is on Mailserv, you have the option of moving to GoogleApps@UIC Gmail.

We will consider disk space increase requests on a case-by-case basis. Please contact systems@uic.edu if you have an urgent need and cannot use GoogleApps@UIC.
