Please note: Basic Email (Webmail and Tigger) will be retired on Monday, January 29, 2018. The information provided below is only for migration purposes.
Most new staff and faculty, and almost all new students do not have a Basic Email account. Staff, please see Exchange Online, students see UIC GoogleApps.
Basic Email (Mailserv and Tigger) accounts can be accessed by a variety of desktop email clients, such as Microsoft Outlook for Windows and Mac OS X, Mozilla Thunderbird, Apple Mail, as well as mobile devices running Android, iOS (iPhone, iPod touch and iPad) and others.
Before you proceed, make sure you have activated your UIC NetID and created a Basic Email account (mailserv).

Some email clients (certain versions of Mozilla Thunderbird, Microsoft Outlook) have a checkbox to Use secure authentication or Secure Password Authentication (SPA). Do not check this checkbox. These modes of authentication are not supported. Your password is already kept secure via SSL encryption.
POP and IMAP are two different protocols for accessing email. We recommend that you use IMAP. IMAP keeps your messages on the server, making them accessible from any device or email client. IMAP can also be configured to keep a local copy of messages for offline use. If you prefer to use POP, please use port 995.
