Overview 

ACCC provides multimedia production services in support of faculty creating multimedia materials for use in their courses, as well as multimedia assistance to students working on academic projects. Multimedia projects include digitizing and conversion, creation and conversion of video, and the creation of fully interactive multimedia objects.

Features 

The Academic Multimedia Lab offers the following Multimedia Production services:

  • Storyboarding: ACCC technology consultants will meet with you to develop a storyboard for your videos.
  • Video: Faculty can request recording and editing services for courses that are being converted to blended or online formats. 3-5 intro videos are recorded and edited at no cost to the faculty unit; more in-depth videos require requestor’s departmental approval and payment.
  • Graphics: Faculty can request the creation of a graphical elements to be used in their courses. Simple graphics are created at no cost to the faculty unit; more complex animations require requestor’s departmental approval and payment.
  • Closed captioning: Faculty can request closed caption services for courses that are being converted to blended or online formats. 3-5 min intro videos are closed captioned at no cost to the faculty unit; longer videos require requestor’s departmental approval and payment.
  • eLearning Authoring: Faculty can request help for the development of eLearning assets using primarily Office Mix, Camtasia Studio, and Adobe Captivate. ACCC technology consultants will meet with faculty to support the creation of interactive artifacts.
  • Media Conversion: ACCC technology consultants will show you how to use the equipment and the software to digitize or transcode your media. Clients should also bring their own DVD’s or any other storage media.
  • Multimedia Equipment Lending: Both faculty and students can check out for a short-term laptops, camcorders, audio recorders, and more from the Academic Multimedia Lab in the Daley Library IDEA Commons. ACCC technology consultants can show you how to use the equipment.
  • Technical Assistance and Consultation: ACCC technology consultants will help you with your audio, video, and eLearning Authoring software questions.
  • Access to Multimedia Software: The LTS technology consultants will show you how to use the equipment and software installed in the lab computers. The following software is available:
    • PC - Adobe Suite Creative Cloud (Full), Camtasia 9, Gimp2, VLC, Audacity, Handbrake, ImgBurn 2.5.7.0, Snagit.
    • Mac - Adobe Suite Creative Cloud(Full), Camtasia 3, VLC, Handbrake, Snagit, Skitch.

Request Process: To request multimedia production services, you can visit the Academic Multimedia Lab located in the Daley Library IDEA Commons. The lab is open to any faculty and student from 10:00am to 4:00pm Monday through Friday. To request audio or video consultations and production services, email ACCC at LTS@uic.edu and a technology consultant will contact you to schedule a time to discuss your project.

Requirements 

Access to the multimedia lab computers is open to any UIC faculty or student.

Applicability 

Media conversion is not a drop-off service. ACCC technology consultants will show you how to use the equipment and the software to digitize or transcode your media.

Cost 

Basic services for multimedia production are free for faculty; some multimedia production services have a recovery cost to the academic department for the faculty requesting the service. To request information for a particular project, email LTS@uic.edu.

Service Request Fulfillment Time

Requests for service/information will be responded to within 1 business day. A specific timeline for completing the project will be given at the initial meeting/communication. Timeline is dependent upon the nature of the request and availability of resources. Projects are completed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Incident Resolution Time

Within 2 business days (for problems with the media produced in the LTS multimedia lab).
