The ACCC supports a few different kinds of software based clients that allow users to initiate phone calls from what appears to be a UIC campus extension by using a computer or other mobile device with the appropriate software installed.


  • A personal phone number that can be forwarded to as many devices as you wish.
  • A personal voicemail box that forwards the audio files of your voice messages to your email inbox.
  • A software based program that you can download that converts your PC or laptop into a phone that you can use to make phone calls - no more campus only dialing restrictions! (standard phone billing rates do apply.)

Checking voicemail

To check your voicemail from any phone, dial your softphone number and when the voicemail picks up, press the * button and enter in your password.


The only calls you are billed for are ones made off-campus: $.03/minute for local calls and $.07/minute for ALL domestic long distance calls, international rates apply to out of country calls. There are no charges for calls to on-campus numbers or to use the services included with SoftPhone such as Simulring or email notification. You can review your monthly telephone charges directly on the Web.
