ACCC Basic Email service allows you to access your email on the web through Webmail as well as many desktop and mobile clients. Features include spam filtering, custom filters, and vacation and out-of-office auto-reply.

Webmail is a web-based email client used to access Basic Email accounts. Webmail supports reading and composing email, email folder management, addressbook management, and message search.

The ACCC provides a personal University email address to all current students, staff and faculty. The email address is in the format netID@uic.edu and can be used in conjunction with any of the email services provided by the ACCC (GoogleApps@UIC, Basic Email and Exchange), or forwarded to an existing non-University email address.

When you're going to be away from your email for an extended period of time, you can use the auto-reply filter to automatically respond to your incoming email to inform senders that you're away, when you'll be back, and perhaps let them know who they can get in touch with for help while you're gone.

Everyone at UIC has an email address in the form netID@uic.edu, where netID is that person's UIC netID. This is an email forwarding address, not an actual email account. In order to be used, netID@uic.edu must forward to an actual email account, which can be a UIC email account or an existing external account. In many cases, when you create an ACCC email account, you will be given the option to have your netID@uic.edu email sent to your new account.

Email clients, including pine, Webmail, and GoogleApps@UIC, allow you to use addressbooks for those you email most often. Unfortunately, they all use their own formats for these addressbooks, so you can not readily share that information between your email programs if you use more than one.

Setting up an email list enables you to email several people at once by simply entering a nickname in the 'To:' field of the email. The email list nickname replaces having to repeatedly type out many email addresses and is particularly useful when you send emails to the same group of people again and again. To set up the list, do the following:

For Basic Email accounts, the Email Tools web tool displays:

  • Email usage and quota
  • Date and time of last time the account was accessed (IMAP or POP)
  • 10 largest messages or files

It also has options to download or delete entire Basic Email folders.
