Xming is not available from the Webstore; instead, it can be downloaded from one of two sites:

There are two versions available. The public domain xming-mesa, version 6.9.0.31 (last updated April 15th, 2012) was used herein.

Service: Printing

Students, staff and faculty can send print jobs from their personal computers or any ACCC public lab in order to print them at the U-Print stations located on campus. In order to submit documents for printing from your own computer or device, download and install the U-Print Popup Client. Pharos Popup Client is available for the following operating systems:

Service: Backups

This page describes how to set up the Tivoli Storage Manager client software on your Windows computer, connect it to the UIC backup Server, schedule incremental backups, make sure the program is running properly, and optionally make an initial full backup. Your computer will need to be registered on the UIC backup server before you can begin.

Conference call using the VoIP phone conference feature on a Cisco phone

These instructions are for making a conference call with a Cisco VoIP phone. Please note that some UIC Cisco phones have calling restrictions, so you should confirm that the phone you plan to use can call off-campus and out of state.

Most new staff and faculty, and almost all new students do not have a Basic Email account. Staff, please see Exchange Online, students see UIC GoogleApps.

Setting up a new account with Thunderbird is easy; you give Thunderbird your name, email address, and password. Thunderbird then looks up the  connection details (such as ports, server names, security protocols, etc.) in its database. It knows about ACCC Basic email accounts and about mail.uic.edu, the email server that you use to connect to your ACCC Basic email account.

Personal email addresses at UIC are of the form NetID@uic.edu. Units, departments, and other entities on campus often have need of task-oriented email addresses that should not be identified publicly with a specific person. The ACCC provides several options for these department, group, and otherwise non-personal email addresses.

The following software is guaranteed to be present in our Windows computer labs:

Setting up UIC-WiFi on Mac OS X 10.7 Lion is completely different from Leopard and Snow Leopard. It works in the same way as it does on iPhones and iPads. If you already have UIC-WiFi set up on your Mac when you upgrade your operating system to Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, Lion will import the UIC-WiFi settings for you; you won't have to reconfigure it in that case.

If you already have an OpenVPN client installed, all you need are your configuration files from the download your OpenVPN configuration file. Otherwise, install OpenVPN through your respective repository below and then open the configuration file with your OpenVPN client once it is installed. Every person has a unique key file that they will use, in combination with their UIC NetID and password, to uniquely identify them. Everything you need for configuration is available in a compressed tar archive.

A NetID and an EnterpriseID are similar and for most people their NetID (for example: adabyron) is the same as their EnterpriseID (adabyron). However, the two passwords associated with them are independent. Some services accept authentication using either a NetID or an EnterpriseID.

Jabber clients are available for download for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux, as well as mobile operating systems. Popular desktop clients include Spark and Pidgin (both are free and available for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux), and MirandaIM (free, Windows-only).

The ACCC has 24-hour labs located in Science and Engineering Labs East on the east campus, in Benjamin Goldberg Research Center on the west campus, and in all of the residence halls. While the residence halls are open at all hours to residents, SELE and BGRC are only open during regular business hours. After 5pm, building access with a UIC i-card is required to enter the buildings.

Everyone at UIC has a UIC email address of the form: NetID@uic.edu. For Ada Byron, whose student NetID is abyron1, this is: abyron1@uic.eduThis is an important email address, because all official UIC email will be sent to it. But it is just an email address; there isn't an email account to go with it. At some point or other, you will have to select an actual email account to receive and manage your NetID@uic.edu email.

Will your NetID@uic.edu email go to your Google Apps at UIC account?
