Symantec Endpoint Protection, SEP, is Symantec AntiVirus® combined with anti-spyware, firewall, intrusion prevention system, application control, device control, and proactive threat scanning into a single client, all managed by a single piece of management software.The combination allows instant upgrades without deploying specific software for each security technology. It protects from from both known threats and from threats that have not been seen before. Symantec Endpoint Protection protects against malware such as viruses, worms, Trojan horses, spyware, and adware.

Most new staff and faculty, and almost all new students do not have a Basic Email account. Staff, please see Exchange Online, students see UIC GoogleApps.

Setting up a new account with Thunderbird is easy; you give Thunderbird your name, email address, and password. Thunderbird then looks up the  connection details (such as ports, server names, security protocols, etc.) in its database. It knows about ACCC Basic email accounts and about mail.uic.edu, the email server that you use to connect to your ACCC Basic email account.

Exchange resource calendars and other users' calendars can be added to Outlook by following these steps.

UIC-WiFi uses WPA2 Enterprise security with 802.1x authentication, PEAP with MSCHAP v2.These instructions should help you to connect your Android (2.1 or higher) device to the campus wireless network. You need to be on campus to do this, near a UIC-WiFi access point. If you have trouble connecting to UIC-WiFi, please visit C-Stop.

To connect to UIC VPN on an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, you will need to install the OpenVPN Connect client and download your VPN configuration file. It is recommended to follow these instructions in order.

Before you install, confirm that ports 515 and 28303 are open on any firewall you are running. Visit the Pharos website to download the Pharos Popup Client for Mac OS X. Double-click on the installer to run it. You may need to authenticate as an administrator to run the installer. Select the volume to install the Popup application and click Install.

Google Groups cannot have calendars of their own, but you can create a subcalendar in your GoogleApps@UIC account for the group and share that with your group:

To connect to UIC VPN on a macOS computer, download and install Viscosity. Viscosity is available in the WebStore, free of charge for UIC faculty, staff, students and affiliates.

ACCC email addresses, accounts, and services are available to current UIC students, staff, and faculty. When class registration or employment at UIC ceases, access to uic.edu email addresses and ACCC email accounts and computing resources is extended for a grace period to allow time for transition to a new email provider. Unfortunately, we cannot offer unlimited periods of account access or email forwarding. 

Many instructors have found it useful to have software and data files installed on our network servers for their students to use. The Academic Computing and Communications Center will work with faculty and departments to make such arrangements.

Personal email addresses at UIC are of the form NetID@uic.edu. Units, departments, and other entities on campus often have need of task-oriented email addresses that should not be identified publicly with a specific person. The ACCC provides several options for these department, group, and otherwise non-personal email addresses.

This page describes how to set up the Tivoli Storage Manager client software on your Windows computer, connect it to the UIC backup Server, schedule incremental backups, make sure the program is running properly, and optionally make an initial full backup. Your computer will need to be registered on the UIC backup server before you can begin.

Conference call using the VoIP phone conference feature on a Cisco phone

These instructions are for making a conference call with a Cisco VoIP phone. Please note that some UIC Cisco phones have calling restrictions, so you should confirm that the phone you plan to use can call off-campus and out of state.

Setting up UIC-WiFi on Mac OS X 10.7 Lion is completely different from Leopard and Snow Leopard. It works in the same way as it does on iPhones and iPads. If you already have UIC-WiFi set up on your Mac when you upgrade your operating system to Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, Lion will import the UIC-WiFi settings for you; you won't have to reconfigure it in that case.

If you already have an OpenVPN client installed, all you need are your configuration files from the download your OpenVPN configuration file. Otherwise, install OpenVPN through your respective repository below and then open the configuration file with your OpenVPN client once it is installed. Every person has a unique key file that they will use, in combination with their UIC NetID and password, to uniquely identify them. Everything you need for configuration is available in a compressed tar archive.

Jabber clients are available for download for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux, as well as mobile operating systems. Popular desktop clients include Spark and Pidgin (both are free and available for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux), and MirandaIM (free, Windows-only).

To connect to UIC VPN from Android devices, you will have to install the OpenVPN Connect client and download your VPN configuration file.

The ACCC has 24-hour labs located in Science and Engineering Labs East on the east campus, in Benjamin Goldberg Research Center on the west campus, and in all of the residence halls. While the residence halls are open at all hours to residents, SELE and BGRC are only open during regular business hours. After 5pm, building access with a UIC i-card is required to enter the buildings.
