Important note: iPod touch and iPad devices need an existing network connection to download and install the UIC-WiFi profile. You do not have to be connected to UIC-WiFi to download and install the profile, but you do have to be connected to the Internet. Please use another wireless connection (at home, coffee shop).

Many instructors have found it useful to have software and data files installed on our network servers for their students to use. The Academic Computing and Communications Center will work with faculty and departments to make such arrangements.

For any software not listed as installed by default, you must submit the software installation request before the deadline and provide all the required information.

SSH (Secure Shell) and SFTP are two network protocols used for secure exchange of data between a local and remote computer. To use either SSH or SFTP to connect to a remote server, download SecureFX and SecureCRT from the WebStore (free to members of the UIC community).

ACCC email addresses, accounts, and services are available to current UIC students, staff, and faculty. When class registration or employment at UIC ceases, access to uic.edu email addresses and ACCC email accounts and computing resources is extended for a grace period to allow time for transition to a new email provider. Unfortunately, we cannot offer unlimited periods of account access or email forwarding.

To connect to UIC VPN from Android devices, you will have to install the AnyConnect client from the Google Play store. Visit https://answers.uillinois.edu/uic/page.php?id=86976 for instructions.

The Email - Quota Tool has an option to download (or delete) email folders that are on your Basic Email account.

Your ACCC Microsoft Exchange mailbox grows as you create and receive items. To manage the space in your mailbox or on the mail server you are using, you can move old items that are important, but rarely used, to an archive location. This storage process occurs automatically with AutoArchive, but you can customize most of the default settings.

Note: The AutoArchive feature is removed from any Outlook profile that contains a Microsoft Exchange account with retention policies.

Personal email addresses at UIC are of the form NetID@uic.edu. Units, departments, and other entities on campus often have need of task-oriented email addresses that should not be identified publicly with a specific person. The ACCC provides several options for these department, group, and otherwise non-personal email addresses.

These instructions are for making a conference call with a Cisco VoIP phone. Please note that some UIC Cisco phones have calling restrictions, so you should confirm that the phone you plan to use can call off-campus and out of state.

Password managers can help you remember and secure all of your passwords.

If you plan to make heavy use of the collaborative features of your OneDrive for Business library, you should enable the versioning feature. Versioning allows you to:

Most new staff and faculty, and almost all new students do not have a Basic Email account. Staff, please see Exchange Online, students see UIC GoogleApps.

Setting up a new account with Thunderbird is easy; you give Thunderbird your name, email address, and password. Thunderbird then looks up the  connection details (such as ports, server names, security protocols, etc.) in its database. It knows about ACCC Basic email accounts and about mail.uic.edu, the email server that you use to connect to your ACCC Basic email account.

Everyone at UIC needs to have a UIC NetID and an ACCC common password.  It allows you:

Service: Box

Setting up UIC-WiFi on Mac OS X 10.7 Lion is completely different from Leopard and Snow Leopard. It works in the same way as it does on iPhones and iPads. If you already have UIC-WiFi set up on your Mac when you upgrade your operating system to Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, Lion will import the UIC-WiFi settings for you; you won't have to reconfigure it in that case.

A NetID and an EnterpriseID are similar and for most people their NetID (for example: adabyron) is the same as their EnterpriseID (adabyron). However, the two passwords associated with them are independent. Some services accept authentication using either a NetID or an EnterpriseID.
