Beginning with the Academic Year 2015-2016, the faculty computer replacement program (commonly referred to as FaCT) has been restructured.

Yes. You should receive all listserv messages in your new GoogleApps@UIC account as long as you are subscribed to the listserv using:

Installing is easy, but it can go wrong, and fixing installation problems is not necessarily easy.

This guide was written for OS X Mavericks (10.9), but the steps outlined here are similar enough on other versions of OS X. It is recommended to upgrade to 10.9 or 10.10 if your Mac supports it. This can be done via the Mac App Store.

1. Prestage object for the Mac in AD.

2. Login to the Mac as an administrator.

If you haven't already, first activate your people.uic.edu site. Use the following settings to connect to your account with an SSH client:

If you have moved your UIC email from Tigger to Mailserv, you can continue to use pine on either Tigger to access your Mailserv account. Use the move-to-mailserv utility to automatically configure pine up to display the contents of your Mailserv account. You can use the utility to do it even if you've already completed the migration. Just press Skip on all the other screens until you get to the last step, then click Reconfigure Pine.

Devices connected to Res-Net, UIC-WiFi, eduroam, and the other UIC campus networks have a daily network usage limit that is detailed in Acceptable Use Policy for Res-Net and the UIC Public Wireless Networks.

If you already have a gmail.com Google account and want to have the calendar associated with that account included in your GoogleApps@UIC calendar, log in to your other Google account and  "share" your other Google calendar with your GoogleApps@UIC calendar.

ANSYS must ALWAYS be run using torque. You can run ANSYS in an interactive mode via a GUI that is called the launcher, or in a non-interactive (batch) mode. In both cases you start ANSYS using the qsub command.

Running ANSYS interactively (using the launcher)

You desktop PC will act as the X-server for the ANSYS launcher. Exceed is the ACCC-supported X-server package. However, you are not required to use Exceed; there are other Window-based X-server packages that will work just as nicely.

The SafeAssignment service is run and hosted by the Blackboard company, and not by the UIC Blackboard learning management system (LMS).  While the UIC Blackboard LMS provides a seamless interface to students and instructors for submitting documents for plagiarism analysis, the actual SafeAssign plagiarism analysis is run off-campus, by Blackboard Inc. servers.

Activate your site, if you haven't already done so. No additional software is needed to map your people.uic.edu account as a network share, but if you are connecting from an off-campus location you will need to connect to the UIC Virtual Private Network (VPN) first.

Windows

To map your account start by right-clicking on your Desktop. Select New then Shortcut. In the dialog, type in \\people.uic.edu\NetID (use your own UIC NetID) in the location field. Click Next.

  1. Click File and choose Print (or use the shortcut Ctrl + P or Command + P). By default your document will be printed double-sided (if it is longer than one page).
  2. Verify the printer you have selected matches the lab you are in (unless you intend to have your job printed to a different lab).
  3. Click Print.
  4. Access the nearest U-Print Station and log in using your UIC NetID  and password.
  5. Once logged in, you must select the document that you want to print, and simply click Print once more.

Before downloading or using the Personal Capture Software you must request access by filling out the lecture capture request form. Click on the link below to request access.

System Requirements

This Echo360 support page contains the most up to date system requirements for both Mac and Windows.

Department Phonebook contacts can make changes to staff Phonebook records in their department, as well as manage the unit's department listing as displayed in Departments A-Z search. Phonebook Contacts are assigned by a delegate authority in the department - usually a dean, director, department head or other designated employee. Delegate authorities can assign Phonebook contacts and other liaisons online.

If you haven't already, activate your site. Use the following settings to connect to people.uic.edu using SFTP. Below you will find instructions for Windows and Mac SFTP clients.

The ACCC runs an LDAP server that you can use to look up the names and email addresses of people using NetID@uic.edu email addresses. This page explains how to use this LDAP server with Mozilla Thunderbird and with Eudora OSE, which is based on Thunderbird.

Thunderbird 3 and Eudora OSE (Penelope Eudora)

The ACCC supports Mozilla's Firefox browser and asks that everyone use it whenever they can instead of Internet Explorer, so it only seems reasonable that we include instructions on how to set up the Thunderbird email client to use mail.uic.edu. Thunderbird is the email client that goes with Firefox. It's easy to use and quite reasonable. A lot like Firefox, in that way. If you're in search of a new email program, check Thunderbird out. It's nice. (And it does RSS.)
