Cisco CallManager is a web-based service that allows UIC VoIP users to manage their address book as well as their speed/fast dial on their VoIP phone.

User Options: Address Book

The Personal Address Book option in the User Options drop-down list allows you to add, edit, or delete entries to your Personal Address Book on your phone.

NOTE 1: It is important to add entries to your Personal Address Book before adding any Fast Dials.

The University of Illinois has provided an easy to use tool that uses a email notifications along with a Web site that allows you to securely send files to that anyone with a University of Illinois Enterprise ID and password. That is everyone at any campus of the University, these days -- faculty and staff must have them for Positive Time Reporting and other administrative tasks and students use them for registration. The tool is called PEAR, Protected E-Mail Attachment Repository Application.

Password managers can help you remember and secure all of your passwords.

The ACCC runs an LDAP server that you can use to look up the names and email addresses of people with NetID@uic.edu email addresses. This page explains how to use this LDAP server with Outlook 2010 and 2007.

Visit the IAM Password Management page at identity.uillinois.edu to set up or modify your password recovery options.  The contact information you provide will allow self management of your password if it becomes unusable (expired, forgotten, or locked) and will only be used for password changes, computer account security events including concerns or alerts involving your high risk data, or as authorized by law.

Before you can use PGP in your correspondence with someone else, you'll have to exchange public keys with them. Here's how.

my.UIC is a University of Illinois at Chicago portal for incoming students which serves student administrative needs. To access my.UIC use your UIC NetID and ACCC common password. Activate your UIC NetID if you haven't already, or change your password, if you have forgotten it.

Have you been using pine on tigger to manage your uic.edu email?

  • Want to get away from logging in all the time, but still use your trusty pine interface?
  • Want to be able to use pine and still save attachments directly to your personal computer?
  • Want to use pine to read your GoogleApps@UIC email?

You can do all of these things with the personal computer versions of Alpine. (The "pine" on tigger has been the newer Alpine for many years. It's the same thing.)

Outlook has a spam filter which automatically sends spam emails to a junk folder. Sometimes Outlook can mark legitimate and valid emails as spam thus preventing them from reaching your email inbox. The issue is rather frequent despite the fact that Outlook spam filter is set to “low” by default. Solve this issue by turning off the Outlook spam filter.

The lack of direct SyncML sync to iCal on the iPhone is because Apple won't let third party software interact with iCal. Synthesis AG got tired of waiting for this to change, and decided to make their own calendar and task application; Todo+Cal+Sync is the result.

There are only two problems:

While the current Wepa pilot is running in several locations on campus, U-Print printers are still the default print destination in the following open computer labs:

  • Benjamin Goldberg Research Center (BGRC) 105

  • Grant Hall (GH) 304 and 306

  • Science & Engineering Labs East (SELE) 2058, 2249, 2249F, 2263, and 2265

  • Science & Engineering Offices (SEO) 430 and 1200

  • Science & Engineering South (SES) 201

Similar to having an assistant help you manage your incoming paper mail, you can use Microsoft Outlook to allow another person, known as a delegate, to receive and respond to e-mail messages and meeting requests and responses on your behalf. You can also grant additional permissions that allow your delegate to read, create, or have more control over items in your Microsoft Exchange Server mailbox.

The ACCC runs an LDAP server that you can use to look up the names and email addresses of people using NetID@uic.edu email addresses. This page explains how to use this LDAP server with Address Book and Mail.app on Macs.

The Oracle Mobile Data Sync, or OMA-DS (formerly known as SyncML), allows you to sync your mobile phone or PDA with a wireless connection directly with the UIC UICalendar server, without connecting it to a PC or Mac and without using your phone or PDA's Web browser. It does require OMA-DS/SyncML support on your mobile phone or PDA -- either built-in or through purchased software. In this case, you enter a specialized URL into SyncML client software. The SyncML client uses the URL to talk to the UICal server and syncs both ways, to the phone or PDA and back to UICal.

There isn't a specific tool to transfer all your data from UICalendar to your Google Calendar, but it is easy to get data from UICal into Google Calendar. You can either:

An email alias is an email address that forwards messages to a single existing email address. An email alias is not an account and does not have a password associated with it. Email aliases must be requested and owned by a UIC faculty or staff member who will manage the forwarding of the alias. Email aliases are useful for receiving email related to a specific purpose that has only one intended recipient.

UIC faculty, staff and students can use the Listserv Creation Form to create new lists. The list will be created immediately; its email address will be listname@listserv.uic.edu, where listname is the name you selected for the list. The additional email alias listname@uic.edu will be created instantly as well, although this is only an alias that routes email to listname@listserv.uic.edu.
