Jan 3 – 5 | ACCC Maintenance & Planned Downtime Schedule

Please note that ACCC’s next quarterly maintenance window is from Friday, January 3, starting at 9:30pm, through Sunday, January 5, 11:59pm.

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,

Please note that ACCC’s next quarterly maintenance window is from Friday, January 3, starting at 9:30pm, through Sunday, January 5, 11:59pm.

ACCC maintenance windows are scheduled to have the least impact on UIC operations, and downtime for services is kept to a minimum. However, certain services may be unavailable for extended periods of time due to necessary updates.

Below is the schedule for maintenance window activities that will impact ACCC services:

Friday, January 3

  • Printing Services
    • Between Friday, 9:30pm and Saturday, 3:30am, printing will be unavailable due to annual maintenance. Student printing quota balance will be reset to $15 during this time in preparation for the Spring semester.

Saturday, January 4

  • Network Services
    • Between 7:45am and 10:30pm, maintenance will be performed on wireless network authentication servers and database tables. Authentication to Chicago campus UIC-WiFi may fail during this time. Authentication to the Eduroam network and to the Rockford campus wireless network may fail between 8:00am to 8:30am.
    • Between 9:00am and 10:00am, authentication to applications using Bluestem and Shibboleth may fail.
    • Between 10:30am and 12:30pm, maintenance will be performed on network Domain Name System (DNS) infrastructure, which may cause intermittent problems loading web pages and using internet services.
    • Between 3:00pm and 4:00pm, maintenance will be performed on network infrastructure to improve UIC-WiFi and Microsoft Office 365 services. No downtime is expected.
  • Active Directory
    • Between 8:00am and 2:00pm, maintenance will be performed on active directory domain controllers. No downtime is expected.
  • Database Services
    • Between 9:00am and 1:00pm, maintenance will be performed on the Database Service infrastructure for MS SQL. Access should not be impacted, but reporting services will be unavailable during this time.
  • Phone Services
    • Between 2:00pm and 3:00pm, maintenance updates will be applied to all Voice Over IP (VoIP) phones, causing them to restart. Active calls will not be dropped, but new calls will not be possible until the phone has finished restarting. Downtime is not expected to last longer than five minutes per phone.
  • Media/Video Streaming Services
    • Between Saturday, 10:00pm and Sunday, 1:00am, updates will be performed on Panopto media streaming and video capture tool. Panopto will be unavailable during this time.


Sunday, January 5

  • Virtual Servers
    • Between 8:00am and 12:00pm, upgrades will be performed on virtual server infrastructure. No virtual server downtime is expected, but access to Virtual Machine consoles through cc-manage.server.uic.edu may be interrupted.
  • Database Services
    • Between 9:00am and 2:00pm, maintenance will be performed on the Database Service infrastructure for MS SQL. Access should not be impacted, but reporting services will be unavailable during this time.
    • Between 2:00pm and 3:00pm, maintenance will be performed on the Database Service infrastructure for MS SQL. Service interruptions are possible for MS SQL server database 2016 during this maintenance time frame.
  • Network Services
    • Between 10:00am and 11:00am, maintenance will be performed on the Bluestem Authentication service. Brief downtime may be experienced during this time.
    • Between 11:00am and 2:00pm, maintenance will be performed on network switches at BGRC. Network services including wired and wireless networks, and VoIP phones, will not be available in BGRC during downtime.
    • Between 2:00pm and 3:00pm, maintenance will be performed on east campus network hardware. East campus networking will be impacted during this time frame.
