August 17th - 19th Planned Downtime Schedule ACCC Maintenance Window

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,

Please note that ACCC’s next quarterly maintenance window is from Friday, August 17th at 5:00pm through Sunday, August 19th at 11:59pm.

ACCC maintenance windows are scheduled to have the least impact on UIC operations, and downtime for services is kept to a minimum. Certain services may be unavailable for extended periods of time due to necessary updates, however. Below is the schedule for maintenance window activities that will impact ACCC services:

Friday, August 17th

  • Network Services
    • Between 6:30am and 8:00am, network maintenance will be performed on East and West data centers. No downtime is expected.
    • Between 7:00pm and 11:59pm, network maintenance will be performed, migrating network connections off old routers to allow for more bandwidth and higher speeds. Loss of connectivity may occur. Downtime should be minimal and limited to a few minutes.
  • Phone Services
    • Between 7:00pm and 7:30pm, maintenance updates will be applied to all VoIP phones, causing them to restart. Active calls will not be dropped but new calls will not be possible until the phone has finished restarting. Downtime is not expected to last longer than five minutes per phone.
  • Printing Services
    • Between Friday, August 17th at 9:00pm and Saturday, August 18th at 3:00am, printing services will be unavailable due to scheduled maintenance. Student printing quota balance will be reset to $15.00 during this maintenance in preparation for the upcoming semester.

Saturday, August 18th

  • Network Services
    • Between 12:00am and 9:00am, hardware maintenance will be performed on the wireless network. Maintenance on individual wireless areas will be rolling throughout UIC to minimize any inconvenience. Downtime is expected to last no longer than 10 minutes.
    • Between 8:00am and 10:00am, hardware maintenance will be performed on network servers including servers connecting to UIC-WiFi. No downtime is expected.
    • Between 9:00am and 5:00pm, network maintenance will be performed on the data center network to increase network speeds to improve service reliability. There is no expected downtime during this time period, but please be aware that interruptions are possible
    • Between 3:00pm and 3:30pm, hardware maintenance will be performed on network servers including servers running DNS Network Management. Brief downtime may be experienced.
    • Between 3:30pm and 3:45pm, hardware maintenance will be performed on network servers including servers connecting to the Eduroam wireless network. Eduroam will be unavailable during this time.
    • Between 3:30pm and 4:00pm, hardware maintenance will be performed on network servers including servers running authentication (Bluestem and Shibboleth). Brief downtime may be experienced.
    • Between 6:00pm and 11:00pm, upgrades will be made to network load balancing appliances. Impacted systems include UIC-WiFi and Office 365 (Exchange Online). There will be short intermittent outages during this upgrade.
  • Identity Management Services
    • Between 9:00am and 10:00am, identity management tools (CSO Menu) will be migrated to a new virtual server environment to allow for improved availability and reliability. Downtime is expected to last for a maximum of one hour.

Sunday, August 19th

  • Network Services
    • Between 12:00am and 12:30am, network maintenance will be performed on hardware controlling Internet traffic to campus. Alternate paths are available and no downtime is expected.
  • Authentication Services
