The Planned Downtime ACCC Maintenance Window schedule was completed over the weekend. All services impacted during the Maintenance Window have been restored to full service.

Planned Downtime Schedule

ACCC Maintenance Window

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,

Please note an update to the quarterly maintenance window schedule as outlined below. The quarterly maintenance window is from Friday, May 17th, starting at 6:00pm through Sunday, May 19th.

ACCC maintenance windows are scheduled to have the least impact on UIC operations, and downtime for services is kept to a minimum. However, certain services may be unavailable for extended periods of time due to necessary updates. Below is the schedule for maintenance window activities that will impact ACCC services:

Wednesday, May 15th - Sunday, May 19th

Please note: Though the following pre-approved upgrade is not part of the official scheduled ACCC maintenance window, part of its necessary scheduled downtime occurs during the maintenance window time frame.

  • Blackboard Learn
    • From Wednesday, May 15th starting at 10:00pm, through Sunday, May 19th at 10:00pm, upgrades will be performed on Blackboard Learn. Blackboard Learn will be unavailable during this time frame. Learn more at go.uic.edu/NewBlackboard

Friday, May 17th

  • Active Directory
    • Between 6:00pm and 7:00pm, maintenance will be performed on the Active Directory service. This maintenance should not have any impact on availability.
  • Virtual Servers
    • At 9:00pm, as a security improvement, LAPS (Microsoft’s Local Administrator Password Solution) will be deployed to ACCC-hosted Windows virtual servers. Virtual server administrators will not be able to use the default local administrator account after the upgrade has been deployed. However, administrator access will still be available using Active Directory credentials.

Saturday, May 18th

  • Wireless Network
    • Between 12:00am and 9:00am, maintenance will be performed on UIC’s wireless network. UIC-WiFi, UIC-Guest and Eduroam connections will be impacted. Downtime should be minimal, lasting no longer than 10 minutes per wireless location.
  • Network Services
    • Between 8:00am and 9:00am, upgrades will be performed on network equipment in the Art and Design Studios and Roosevelt Road Building. This will cause network outages of up to 30 minutes per site, one site at a time. Downtime will impact all network services, including wired and wireless networks and VoIP phones.
    • Between 8:00am and 10:30am, maintenance will be performed on wireless network authentication servers. Authentication to Chicago campus UIC-WiFi may fail during this time. Authentication to the Eduroam network and to the Rockford campus wireless network may fail between 8:00am and 8:30am.
    • Between 10:30am and 12:00pm, maintenance will be performed on network Domain Name System (DNS) infrastructure, which may cause intermittent problems loading web pages and using internet services.
    • Between 10:00pm and 11:59pm, upgrades to the network load balancer will be performed. These upgrades will impact UIC-WiFi and Office365/Exchange Online. There is no expected downtime with this upgrade.
  • Active Directory
    • Between 9:00am and 10:00am, maintenance will be performed on the Active Directory service. This maintenance should not have any impact on availability.
  • Endpoint Management
    • Between 9:00am and 11:00am, upgrades will be performed to the SCCM infrastructure. The service will be unavailable during this time.
  • Phone Services
    • From 11:00am to 2:00pm, maintenance updates will be applied to all Voice over IP (VoIP) phones, causing them to restart. Active calls will not be dropped but new calls will not be possible until the phone has finished restarting. Downtime is not expected to last longer than five minutes per phone.
  • Wired Network
    • From 12:00pm to 12:30pm, maintenance will be performed on firewalls servicing the College of Business and Student Affairs departments. During this time, wired network outages may be experienced.

Sunday, May 19th

  • Red WordPress Multisite
    • From 2:00am to 5:30am, maintenance will be performed on the Red WordPress Multisite to improve performance. During this time, all websites will be in read-only mode and administrator access will not be available.
    • Between 5:30am to 6:00am, upgrades will be performed on the Red WordPress Multisite. All websites hosted on Red will be unavailable during this time frame.
  • Wireless Network
    • Between 8:00am and 9:00am, hardware and software upgrades will be performed on the wireless network to improve performance. During this time, wireless access in all buildings will be unavailable. Wired connectivity and VoIP services will not be impacted.
  • Network Infrastructure
    • At 9:00am, updates will be performed on networking for virtual server infrastructure. No downtime is expected.
