Overview 

Streaming is the process of delivering large media files online without waiting for the entire file to download before viewing. While applications or packages typically require that they be downloaded in their entirety before using them, streaming allows you to play the video as the data stream arrives. Streaming media is transmitted by a server and displayed through a media player.

Streaming Service

Panopto is ACCC’s recommended media-streaming and video capture solution. Protected by UIC’s authentication process, Panopto offers instructors a secure method of sharing content. The all-inclusive platform allows users to capture and edit video, add captions, create video assignments, and insert interactive video quizzes. This tool is recommended for faculty and instructors that want to “flip” the classroom, or that are creating content for blended or online courses; and for students that need to create video assignments to share with classmates and instructors.

ACCC Service Level Agreement (SLA)

Echo360 ALP is the classroom capture solution. ALP works with Echo360 to stream previously recorded lectures. For those who want to upload videos with their Presentation slides, Echo360 ALP provides an easy way for students to access all class presentations and recordings with one click in Blackboard.

YouTube is an app from the G Suite that allows you to share videos via a direct link or embedding the videos in your Blackboard course site. To use this service, you’ll need to login into your G Suite account using your UIC NetId and password and create a new channel. Be sure to check the Terms of Service and learn about copyright basics and how to control what others see across Google services before using this service.

Cost 

Panopto is available for teaching and learning purposes to faculty and students at no extra charge. Staff should contact LTS for additional information on non academic uses of Panopto.
