Virtual Private Network (VPN)

On 2/25/19, ACCC's OpenVPN solution suffered an outage and despite our best efforts, service is not able to be restored. Luckily, ACCC has been working for some time on a replacement solution: Cisco AnyConnect VPN. While ACCC was in the final testing stages with the AnyConnect solution, and planned to make it available to the university in mid-March, the OpenVPN outage has forced us to immediately make the new solution available. Please see the updated content below for information on obtaining, installing, and using the AnyConnect VPN solution.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may cause you, and appreciate your patience through this transition.

Audience: Faculty, Staff, Students, IT

The Virtual Private Network service allows you to securely access resources at UIC over a non-UIC Internet connection. While connected to the VPN, the client software works with the operating system to determine when you are accessing an Internet location that the client should protect. When you are accessing such a location, the VPN client encrypts the data.

  • AnyConnect VPN clients available for:
  • Securely access campus-only services from off-campus
  • Encrypted connection to UIC services and network

In order to utilize the Cisco AnyConnect VPN solution, you need to be registered for the UI Verify two-factor authentication solution. More information about UI Verify can be found at

There is no charge for this service.
