vpn

The Virtual Private Network (VPN) service allows you to securely access resources at UIC over a non-UIC Internet connection. While connected to the VPN, the client software works with the operating system to determine when you are accessing an Internet location that the client should protect. When you are accessing such a location, the VPN client encrypts the data.

There are two group options when connecting to AnyConnect, General-Use and Library-Resources, and which you use depends on what you are trying to access. The Library-Resources VPN should only be used when connecting to the library databases as this VPN does not allow access to other UIC department resources. For all other VPN needs, the General-Use VPN should be used.

A VPN (Virtual Private Network) is used to encrypt data destined for UIC while it travels over the Internet. While connected to the VPN, the client software works with the operating system to determine when you are accessing an Internet location that the client should protect. When you are accessing such a location, the VPN client encrypts the data and sends it to ACCC's VPN gateway. As your information is flowing across the Internet to reach UIC, it is securely encrypted and is only decrypted once it reaches the VPN gateway.

Service: Exchange

If you have Outlook installed at home or on a laptop and want to access it from an off-campus network you will have to install a VPN client in order to set up your Exchange email via Outlook. Then your Outlook would download the setting for it to be used without a VPN.

Alternatively, you can use the Outlook Web App from any location (without VPN).
