All buildings on the UIC campus are connected to the UIC-Net campus backbone network, which connects computers and LANs at UIC to each other, to the Internet (via a 155 Mbps connection at the Ameritech Chicago NAP), and to the Internet2 Abilene and vBNS research networks. Most offices on campus and all dorm rooms have a 10 Mbps Ethernet or better connection to UIC-Net.
To connect to UIC-Net you will need an active wall data jack and a configured computer or device with an ethernet card.
To request a new connection for an existing wall jack (bjack), contact the REACH representative for your department. REACH representatives are listed on the Departments A-Z page. If your department do not have a REACH representative, or they are not available, contact the Client Services Office.
If you would like a UIC-Net network connection to be added to a room in which there is not yet a wall jack, contact the Telecommunications Consulting.
