Instructional Technology Lab


The mission of the Instructional Technology Lab is to help UIC faculty make use of computer technology and Web-based solutions to enhance teaching and learning. The ITL supports students and staff with technology and education as well as serves as a test bed for new technology applications in computing and education.


  • Blackboard Learn — Support for Blackboard Learn (the Learning Management System at UIC)
  • Equipment Checkout — Video cameras, laptops, iPads and more can be checked out for 1 week
  • Web Conferencing — Support for Blackboard Collaborate and ACCC e-Rooms (Centra)
  • GoogleApps@UIC — Support for Google Docs, Sites, Calendar and Gmail
  • Clickers — Support for iClicker and Turning Point clickers
  • SoftChalk — Support for SoftChalk to create web based lessons 
  • Respondus — Support for Respondus to create quizzes and tests that can be imported into Blackboard
  • WebDisks — Support for WebDisks to store and share files easily online
  • Wimba Voice Tools — Support for Wimba Voice Tools through Blackboard
  • Blackboard IM — Support for Blackboard Instant Messenger which connects to classmates through Blackboard course rosters for easy communication
  • SafeAssign — Support for Safe Assign the plagiarism detection system used through Blackboard
  • Accessibility — Support for creating accessible Web based materials and sites
  • Audio Narrated PowerPoint — Support for creating Web optimized audio narrated PowerPoint presentations
  • Blogs, Wikis and Journals — Support for blogs, wikis and journals used through Blackboard
  • General Consulting — Support for Web design and development, HTML, CSS, graphic design, social networking, general technology and education questions and support
  • Blackboard Mobile Learn — Take advantage of the Blackboard Learn system through your mobile devices with Blackboard Mobile Learn
  • Electronic Portfolios — Support to build and develop electronic portfolios
  • Real-time Collaboration Technology — Including instant messengers, video chats,to web conferencing and video conferencing
  • Video Conversion — Digitizing video for Web delivery and DVD
  • Scanning (Flatbed) — Scanning documents into PDF, JPG or Word with OCR technology
  • Scanning (Slide) — Digitize slides
